Experiment description
This experiment demonstrates the separation of a mixture containing ammonium chloride, sand, and common salt by using three different physical separation methods. Ammonium chloride is first separated by sublimation on heating. Water is then added to dissolve the common salt, while the insoluble sand is separated by filtration. Finally, the salt solution is heated to evaporate the water and recover common salt. The experiment shows how differences in sublimation, solubility, and volatility can be used to separate different components of a mixture.
