Alkali Metal Reactivity Towards Air

Alkali Metal Reactivity Towards Air

Experiment description

This experiment demonstrates the reactivity of alkali metals towards air. When alkali metals are exposed to dry air, they react with oxygen to form oxides. The type of oxide formed depends on the size of the metal atom. Smaller metals like lithium form simple oxides, while larger metals such as potassium, rubidium, and cesium form superoxides.
