Experiment description

In this experiment, we will compare the hardness of different metals such as iron, copper, aluminium, magnesium, and sodium. First, we try to cut iron, copper, aluminium, and magnesium with a knife and observe that they are not easily cut. Then, sodium metal is handled carefully with tongs, dried using filter paper, placed on a watch-glass, and cut with a knife. Sodium is cut easily, showing that metals are generally hard, but their hardness varies from metal to metal.
